Impressions 2011

The symposium is part of the course but it is also possible to subscribe for the symposium separately. This year the symposium is entitled The Cleft Lip Patient and Revision Surgery. The day starts with a lecture of honour by Jonathan Sykes. Dr. Sykes is president of the American Academy of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery. He has great clinical and scientific expertise in facial plastic and reconstructive surgery of the cleft-lip patient. He will discuss different surgical techniques and the importance of timing of surgery. Both are essential in order to minimize the deformities and the stigma of these children.

Revision surgery, especially in rhinoplasty, is often challenging and requires a systematic surgical plan. During surgery however, the surgeon should be able to change the surgical technique in case the situation is different than expected. The use of grafts and how to deal with over-resection of cartilaginous- and bony structures as well as the soft tissue envelope will be discussed during this symposium. We hope to further enhance the learning experience of this day with didactic lectures and an interactive expert panel discussion about analysis and surgical solutions of some special selected clinical cases.
